Step 22 to Buying a Home: Hook up your utilities.

It’s easy to forget about setting up utilities, but this step is essential to ensure everything is up and running when you move in. Here’s how to make sure you’re prepared:

1. Gas & Electric

  • Set up Services: Call early to have services switched into your name and scheduled for activation on the day of closing.

2. TV & Internet

  • Installation Appointment: Contact your TV and internet provider as soon as possible.
    • Providers often have long wait times for installation appointments, sometimes weeks in advance.
  • Condo-specific Details:
    • Check with your HOA President or Property Management to confirm if cable or internet is included in your HOA fees.
    • If not, ask if there’s a specific provider you must use or if you can select your own.

3. Additional Utilities (Single Family Homes)

  • Water & Trash: For single-family homes, arrange for water and trash services to be switched into your name as well.

By calling these utilities in advance, you’ll avoid any last-minute stress and ensure you have everything set up on closing day!
